I loveeee Nasi Goreng. The first time I got to try it was about 4 months ago in Happi Hen in BF Homes Paranaque. It was love at first bite!
Nasi Goreng is a “fried rice” Indonesian dish. The stir fried rice is cooked with oil then spiced with “kecap manis.” Then they top it off with chicken and sunny side up eggs. Delish!
Yesterday, my husband, Marco asked me to try researching online for a new dish. Without an oven in our hotel room, I felt unready for a kitchen battle. Plus it’s a 2 burner stove. If you’ve seen me cook you’ll know that 2 just does not make the cut.
Being the obedient wife that I am 😉 I did go online, but not to look at recipes, I got engrossed with facebooking! So around 5 pm when Marco texted that he was on his way home, code for “I expect dinner on the table when I get home woman!” I looked at our under stocked pantry and saw the following: half of the brown rice pasta I got from Healthy Options in Manila and Nasi goreng sos.
And when I opened the frig we had potatoes, carrots, garlic, celery, and fish fillet.
Voila! Nasi Pasta!

I sauteed the carrots, potatoes and celery in the nasi goreng sauce while I boiled the brown rice pasta in another pot. I had to wait til the noodles were cooked before I could fry the fish. Then I had to wait again for the fish to finish so I could cook the eggs. See what I meant when I said 2 burners were not enough!
I mixed the noodles with the sauteed veggies, added BUTTER (we loveeeee butter!) and at the very last minute dropped the garlic for a fresh garlicky taste, then I plated it. Added the fish on the side, 2 eggs on top. Marco said it was pretty good. It tasted a bit like Happi Hen’s Nasi Goreng.. But doesn’t make up for my missing it. First stop when I get home, eat in Happi Hen!
